Day 1
Check-in at the hotel.
Due to the city's location at the 69th parallel, you will be able to witness a number of unique natural phenomena - the "polar night" in winter when the sun does not rise above the horizon and the "polar day" in summer when the sun does not set for 2 months.
Departure to the port, where you will have a unique opportunity to board the icebreaker "Lenin" – the world's first nuclear-powered icebreaker. The "Lenin" is the first surface vessel in the world equipped with a nuclear power plant. It was built in the USSR primarily to service the Northern Sea Route. The "Lenin" operated for 30 years, from 1959 to 1989, and assisted approximately 3,000 vessels through the ice. In 1989, it was decommissioned and placed on permanent display in Murmansk. The ship retains its original equipment, much of which is now considered a rarity. Visitors can also see the nuclear reactor (of course, without fuel, meaning that staying on the icebreaker is completely safe).
Day 4
Arrival at the Saami Settlement – an open-air museum of Saami life and culture; the 3-hour program includes: a visit to the alley of enchanted idols, an introduction to the wildlife of the Saami: foxes, arctic foxes, reindeer, huskies, and other animals. Feeding the reindeer by hand and taking photos with the animals, participating in Saami games, riding reindeer sleds (2 laps around the lake), and on sleds/banana pulled by a snowmobile (2 laps around the lake). The lake is small. Meals consist of traditional Saami dishes: "lim" (fish soup), fried lake fish (or reindeer) with a side dish, a drink called "pakula" (a national herbal tea of the Saami), pancakes, black tea, and Lovozero bread. At the end of the program – optionally: photos in traditional Saami costumes, purchasing souvenirs (protective charms made of horn) for an additional fee.
Trip to Teriberka, a settlement located on the shores of the Barents Sea (125 km from Murmansk), although the road is in poor condition. As you travel from Murmansk to Teriberka, the landscape outside the window will rapidly change, and tourists will see all the climatic zones of the Kola Peninsula. Starting with forest around Murmansk, the scenery will suddenly transform into forest-tundra and then to bare tundra, interspersed with lakes and rocks. What is particularly striking is that this entire change in landscape occurs in less than 50 km.
Return to the city of Murmansk.
Riding on “vatrushkas” (inflatable tubes) is a fun activity equally suited for adults and children! A winter pastime with an indescribable sense of excitement.
